South Napa Earthquake – Mission: RESPOND and RECOVER
Overview:
In the early morning hours of Sunday, August 24, 2014 a 6.0 magnitude earthquake rippled violently through the quiet hillsides, vineyards, homes and business of Napa Valley focusing most of its energy on the historic downtown and western portion of the City of Napa. Roads were ripped in half, sidewalks were buckled, water pipes were leaking, building structures were compromised, and debris from the damage was everywhere. The Mission for Public Works was immediately clear – RESPOND and RECOVER. This presentation will highlight Napa’s efforts to respond in the weeks following the quake, discuss the recovery effort with FEMA, and provide lessons learned from a community that lived through it.
